Today, July 17th is World Emoji Day! The first ever Emoji was created by Shigetaka Kurita in Japan and world emoji day was created by Jeremy Burge on July 17th, 1998. It’s already been 20 years since the creation of Emojis and it’s obvious that Emojis are here to stay!

20th Year Anniversary Gift

To celebrate the 20th year anniversary this year in 2018 more than 70 emojis will be added to Apple devices. As promised by Apple, gender-neutral characters, mythical creatures, hair colour variations such as redhead designs, grey hair designs, curly hair designs and some without hair will be added to “ better represent people “ says Apple.

These virtual avatars are symbols that aid in better-expressing feelings and emotions via digital communication. Did you know that over 5 billion Emojis are sent out each day on Facebook Messenger alone? An astonishing 5 BILLION EACH DAY! To put this in perspective, it would take more than 155 years to count to 5 billion. This amount of Emojis used on Facebook Messenger alone every single day.


Emojis have changed the way we communicate today!

Emojis have become an increasingly popular form of communication that has revolutionized the way people of all languages interact and communicate on digital. In fact,  of the 2,800+ Emojis on Facebook, the “heart” emoji is the most used expression on the platform. And yes, it is very pleasing to hear that Facebook remains a powerful medium for “ Giving people the power to build community and bring the world closer together, and to share and express what matters to them.”, as stated in Facebook’s Mission Statement.
